Q-1 What are the reccommended books for candidates before appearing in ISSBs?

Ans You may read "WHO IS WHO AND WHAT IS WHAT?" to strengthen your general knowledge.But the best thing is that you gain knowledge from the experience of others.


Q-2 Is ISSB difficult ?

Ans ISSB mainly concerns with the natural talent you have and how much aptitude you have towards the forces.So its not about difficult or easy,its upto you how you take it?


Q-3 What is Psychological test?


Ans In these tests a candidate is put through number of stages inorder to judge his/her mental stability, attitude, maturity of thoughts etc.They may include composition of sentences, picture writing, completion of sentence and general questions


Q-4 Is it compulsory to take the original certificates along while going to take ISSB?


Ans They are mandatory.You can't sit in the ISSB without having original marksheets/certificates.


Q-5 Can i apply for commission in the forces on the basis of hpoe certificate ?


Ans No.The policy has been revised.Now you can't apply until and unless you have the marksheet of XII or of A-LEVELS.


Q-6 Do I have to qualify NUST entry test inorder to apply for TECHNICAL CADET COURSE (TCC)?


Ans The policy has been revised.According to new policy NUST entry test is no more required.Just like initials you have to undergo a seperate test held at respective selection center.


Q-7 What is the validity of ISSB?

Ans Your ISSB is valid for an year.After that your ISSB is expired.

Q-8 How many times the Inital can be given?


Ans Within the age limit you can give the initials as many time as you can.

Q-9 After reccommended from ISSB and being declared fit in medical,I was not able to make the joining.Does it mean I have spoiled my one chance?

Ans No,you still have all the chances with you since you were reccommended.Had you been declared "non reccommended" then obviously you would have lost your first chance.

Q-10 What's the most difficult part in ISSB?

Ans It varies from ndividual to individual.Normally pshyco test is considered to be the most difficult and important part of ISSB.


Q-11 Do Training Institutes help?


Ans The TRAINING INSTITUTES can not change and modify your natural talent and aptitude in a week or more.They can only improve you phsically.On the other hand ISSB is mainly concerned with your natural talent and aptitude you have towards the forces.So training institute may not be helpful.Furthemore, according to ISSB rules and regulations,you are not allowed to take training in any institute.And if you do not follow the rules/instructions here,what can they hope from you in future.


Q-12 Is it true that URDU SPEAKINGS and SINDHIS are put aside during selection


Ans MISCONCEPTION: This is not like that.Let me assure you that during ISSB,everyone gets equal oppurtunity to show his/her talent and selection is done absolutely on merit.For your knowledge, during my ISSB,out of 58 candidates only six were recommended and out of six we were three urdu speakings.

Q-13 In pshyco test,how many sentences do we have to make?


Ans There are normally 100 words.Each word comes on screen for 10 seconds.So you have nine to ten seconds to make the sentence.

What is ISSB?

ISSB stands for Inter Services Selection Board.Inter Services Selection Board is an institution tasked with the selection of potential officers for the armed forces of Pakistan.The candidates at the ISSB are put through a multi-dimensional selection process spread over a period of four days. The selection process comprises of intelligence tests, personality tests and planning skills through group tasks, physical fitness and detailed interviews. Successful candidates are finally selected by respective service headquarters strictly on the merit.

TESTS



Psychological Tests

These tests include intelligence and personality tests and are held on the the first day.These are of two main types; verbal and non verbal. Candidates who fail to come up to the minimum standards are screened out.Mechanical Aptitude Test (MAT) is designed to assess candidates' basic mechanical sense.Personality Tests are written tests of analytical type.


Out Door Tests


Group Tests: In these tests the candidates are put through a number of standardized situations to find out the degree of officer like qualities in a candidate i.e., team spirit, initiative, resourcefulness etc, and whether the candidate’s personality fits him for a practical role that an officer has to play in the Armed Forces.The tests include:-
· Group Discussion. Informal discussions are conducted in a group on given subjects.

· Group Planning. A group plan for a given problem on the model is to be evolved.

· Group Tasks. Three group tasks are conducted in which candidates are presented practical situation and left to solve these.

. Command Tasks. Each candidate is in turn appointed the commander of the group and given a practical task requiring several men.

. Individual Obstacles. Simple obstacles which a candidate is required to tackle.



Interview


Interviewer assesses the candidates in an informal and objective manner. The questions would mainly pertain to the candidate's life, academics, awareness and general aspects requiring the candidates' views.
